UHF CB - 80 Channels

UHF CB, Why 80 Channels ?

In May 2011 the new Radio Act allowed for the increase of UHF CB channels from 40 to 80. The spectrum taken by the UHF CB band has changed little, individual channels have been ’narrowed’ to use less individual space within the band allowing for the increase in the number.

The advantage of more channels is to help with congestion in busy areas. The general 400 Mhz band is being reshaped to promote ’Narrow’ banding to allow for more channels in general.

Will a 40 channel radio communicate with an 80 channel radio ?

The first 40 channels in the 80 channel band are the same frequencies as the original 40 channel system. The next 40 channels (41 to 80) will only communicate with another 80 channel unit. The ’narrowing’ of the bandwidth in the new radios will mean the receiver audio level on an older ’wide’ band radio will sound a little lower in volume. In time the new narrow band radios will become more and more common with the older wide band units slowly being replaced.

All the UHF CB radios supplied by us are now ’narrow’ band to comply with the new act.
